Plain words about what this is, whose data it holds, and how it is looked after. Last updated 23 September 2026.

Who runs this

En Garde is a private, invitation-only pilot, operated from California. The operating company will be named here in full before any paid or public launch.

During the invitation pilot the service is provided free to a small number of invited club families. Afterwards it is priced per fencer: $29.99 per month for the first fencer in a household and $23.99 per month for each additional fencer, a 20% reduction. The adult's own account is free. One household account covers up to three fencers; if your family has more, write to support@engardenow.com and we will arrange it. You will never be charged without being asked first.

Terms of use

What this is

A planning and training record for a fencing family: what your fencer trained, what they noticed, which competitions are worth the trip, and what a trip would cost. It is a notebook that does arithmetic. It is not coaching, not medical advice, and not a substitute for your club.

Who may use it

En Garde is for parents and guardians. You must be 18 or over to hold an account, and you confirm that when you set one up. It is not directed to children, and children do not use it: accounts are held and operated by adults, and only an adult signs in. An account is for one household, and the adult who opens it is responsible for it.

Everything recorded about a fencer is entered by their own parent or guardian. We do not give logins to children, and we do not collect anything directly from a child.

Invitations

An invitation code lets one household in. Codes are not transferable and may be withdrawn. Sharing a code does not create an account for anyone else; it just uses up the seat.

The exercise guidance

Training suggestions and exercise illustrations are general information, not instruction for your child specifically. Fencing and strength training carry a risk of injury. Your coach and your doctor know your fencer; this does not. Use judgement, and stop if something hurts.

What we ask of you

• Enter records about your own household, not other people's children.
• Do not try to reach another household's data. Attempts are refused by the database and are logged.
• Do not resell or redistribute the service.

Ending it

You can close your account whenever you like, and we can close one that breaks these terms. On closure your records are kept for twelve months so an account reopened after a season away still has its history, then deleted. Ask us and we will delete them sooner.

No warranty

The service is provided as it is. Costs, distances and schedules are estimates gathered from public sources and change without notice — check the organiser before you book anything. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and its total liability is limited to what you have paid in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. California law governs.

Privacy

What is held

• The account. The name, email address, phone number and home ZIP code of the adult who holds it. The phone number is so your club can reach a parent; the ZIP code is how trip costs and distances are worked out. We do not ask for your street address. If you sign in with Google or Facebook we receive your name and email address from them — never your password, and nothing else from your profile.
• Each fencer. First name, birth year, weapon, club, and a USA Fencing member number if you choose to add one.
• What you record. Training sessions, lessons, bouts you log, notes, goals, and how you rated things.
• Household settings. Home postcode and travel preferences, so trip costs can be worked out from where you live.

What is not held

This environment does not contain competition results, entry lists, rankings or strength ratings for other fencers. Those tables do not exist in this database. If that ever changes, this page changes first and you will be told.

There are no advertising trackers, no analytics that follow you elsewhere, and no third-party scripts collecting anything about you.

What it is used for

Running the service for you: showing your records back to you, working out costs and distances, and answering you when you write. Nothing else.

What is never done

• Your data is not sold, rented, or shared for anyone else's marketing.
• Your child's records are not used to advertise to your child.
• One household's records are never shown to another.

Who else touches it

Two suppliers, both under contract and neither permitted to use your data for their own purposes: our hosting and database provider, and our email provider. That is the whole list.

If your club uses En Garde, the coaches and administrators at that club may see the training records of your fencers. Nobody outside your club does.

How it is protected

• Everything travels over an encrypted connection, and is encrypted where it is stored.
• Passwords are never stored — only an unreadable hash. Nobody here can look up your password.
• Every table enforces which household a row belongs to, in the database itself rather than in the page. This was tested by signing in as one household and trying to reach another's records; every attempt was refused.
• Invitation codes are stored hashed, so a copy of the database yields no working codes.

No system is perfect. If your data is ever exposed, you will be told what happened, what was affected, and what we are doing about it.

How long it is kept

While your account is open, plus twelve months after it closes, then deleted. Ask sooner and it goes sooner.

Children

This service is used by parents on behalf of children, and it holds information about children. That puts real obligations on us, and we would rather state them plainly than bury them.

A parent sets it up, always

Only an adult can open an account. Before any record about a child can be created, the account holder must confirm that they are the parent or guardian of every fencer they are about to add, and consent to those records being kept. This is not a checkbox we hope you tick — the database will not accept a child's record until that confirmation is stored.

What a child's record contains

First name, birth year, weapon, club, and whatever training the family chooses to log. No home address for the child, no school, no photographs, no location tracking, no contact details for the child.

Children do not have accounts here

There are no child logins. A child cannot sign in, cannot type anything into this service, and is never asked for anything. Every record is entered by the adult who holds the account, about their own child. That is a deliberate choice, not an oversight: it means nothing is ever collected from a child.

If that changes, this page will say so before it does.

A parent's rights over a child's record

As the parent you may, at any time: see everything held about your child, get a copy of it, correct it, delete it, or refuse any further collection while keeping the rest of the account. Write to support@engardenow.com and it will be done. Deleting a child's record does not require you to close the household account.

Your data, and how to get it

Whatever the law where you live says, these are available to every household here, for the asking, at no charge:

• See it — a plain description of everything held about your household.
• A copy — your records as a file you can keep, in a format another tool can read.
• Correct it — anything wrong, fixed.
• Delete it — your household's records removed, permanently.
• Stop — close the account and take the copy with you.

Write to support@engardenow.com from the address on the account. Requests are answered within 30 days, usually far sooner. You will not be charged, and you will not be talked out of it.
